YouTube Plans To Challenge The Cable With 'Channels'

The world's largest video site announced that it’s lined up a slew of new content partners who will be developing shows for the site, covering everything from sports to comedy to music. The news had been rumored for some time, including a report last week in the WSJ.

In a blog post announcing the news, YouTube says its goal with these channels is to “give you more reasons to keep coming back again and again”. The post references the so-called “defining channels” born out of cable, like MTV, ESPN, and CNN, and says that the next generation of these will emerge on YouTube.  And for advertisers, these channels will represent a new way to engage and reach their global consumers.

The first of these new original channels will appear on YouTube starting next month and continuing over the next year. They’ll be available to you on any internet-connected device, anywhere in the world, with all the interactivity and social features of YouTube built right in.

Apple Profit for this year Rises about 85%

As on the reports upto 25th September of this year Apple shows the net profit as $25.9bn, which 85% rise from the last year.

Even that was not enough with the shares falling nearly 5% in after-hours trading. As there were no major products released in the fourth quarter of this year the apple could not achieve more than this. Since the death of Apple's co-founder Steve Job this the first set of results.

In the fourth quarter of the year, Apple sold 17.1 million iPhones, which was a 21% increase on the same period last year, and 11.1 million iPads, which was a 166% increase. But analysts expected the sales of iPhone around 20 million pieces in the quarter.

Apple said sales were decreased in September by customers expecting for the new version of the iPhone which is nothing but iPhone 4S, which was released on 14 October. Which is not included in this report. But iPhone 4S sold over four million of the new models in the first three days after launch.

One of the analyst at BGC Partners Colin Gillis said that the numbers came in weak. They need to set records every time they report to keep up the momentum.

But the sales of the Mac computers for the last year were 3.6 million. This was increased to this year by 27% which is precisely over 4.9 million Mac computers.

Analyst at Sterne Agee Shaw Wu said "The numbers are actually quite good. The reason why the stock is off - I think some of the analysts got carried away".

Google Shutdowns more services: Buzz, Code Search & More

The Google Vice President for the product department Bradley Horowitz's post in its official blog says that the google terminating several more products such as Jaiku, Buzz, Code search engine, iGoogle features and the University Research Program for Google Search.

Here’s the latest update:
  • Code Search, which was designed to help people search for open source code all over the web, will be shut down along with the Code Search API on January 15, 2012.
  • In a few weeks we’ll shut down Google Buzz and the Buzz API, and focus instead on Google+. While people obviously won't be able to create new posts after that, they will be able to view their existing content on their Google Profile, and download it usingGoogle Takeout.
  • Jaiku, a product we acquired in 2007 that let users send updates to friends, will shut down on January 15, 2012. We’ll be working to enable users to export their data from Jaiku.
  • Several years ago, we gave people the ability to interact socially on iGoogle. With our new focus on Google+, we will remove iGoogle's social features on January 15, 2012. iGoogle itself, and non-social iGoogle applications, will stay as they are.
  • The University Research Program for Google Search, which provides API access to our search results for a small number of approved academic researchers, will close on January 15, 2012.

Google also said that it will be closing down the Google Labs site, as it promised earlier. That site will be gone as of today, so get your last visit in now. In addition, Boutiques.com and Like.com will now be replaced by Google Product Search.
